Linea(s) de investigación

Nuestro grupo está interesado en las acciones de los esteroides en el sistema nervioso, con énfasis particular en sus efectos neuroprotectores. Los esteroides neuroactivos incluyen hormonas, como el estradiol, y esteroides sintetizados localmente por las células neurales.

Nuestros objetivos en el momento actual son determinar:

i) los efectos neuroprotectores y anti-inflamatorios de compuestos estrogénicos en modelos experimentales de enfermedades degenerativas e inflamatorias del cerebro.

ii) si el envejecimiento y el tiempo de privación previa de estrógenos puede afectar a su acción neuroprotectora.

iii) los mecanismos celulares y moleculares de la actividad anti-inflamatoria del estrógeno en el cerebro.

iv) los mecanismos neuroprotectores de los moduladores selectivos de los receptores de estrógeno.

v) el significado funcional de la esteroidogénesis cerebral y del metabolismo cerebral de esteroides.

vi) la interacción del estradiol con la vía de Notch y los mecanismos moleculares de la dendritogénesis.
